Civil Service Club - Identity

Valletta, Malta

A refined brand identity was developed alongside the design of Civil Service Club, a historic members’ club in Valletta, Malta, ensuring that signage, printed materials, memorabilia and spatial cues felt at ease with the club’s cultural character. Mizzi Studio worked in tandem with the architectural and interior design, shaping visual language that resonates both in space and in the artefacts members encounter.

Mizzi Studio’s work on Civil Service Club was integrated with the club’s broader design development, so identity and interiors evolved together rather than separately. This meant that environmental graphics, signage and operational cues were designed in dialogue with spatial flow and material choices, creating clarity and continuity throughout lounges, reception areas and circulation spaces.

In parallel, the identity language extended into a suite of bespoke artefacts and memorabilia that help shape the club’s culture. Carefully designed booklets and catalogues offer tactile engagement with content, menus reflect material and tonal decisions rooted in place, and membership cards, stamped motifs and custom cases become objects that members carry and use. These artefacts carry the same considered visual language found in the spaces themselves.

Colour, typography and graphic motifs were selected to feel quietly refined while honouring Valletta’s architectural and cultural heritage. The identity supports both clarity of use and the sense of belonging that defines the club, crossing the threshold from spatial signage into the objects and memorabilia that members collect and keep.
